Army hands over body of soldier who killed minister

The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) has finally handed over the body of Private Wilson Sabiiti, the bodyguard responsible for the tragic shooting of State Minister of Labour Col. Charles Engola on May 2. Sabiiti subsequently took his own life moments after the incident.

Since then, the UPDF had retained Sabiiti’s body, citing the need to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances and motives surrounding his actions.

On Monday, the body was officially released to Sabiiti’s family in Kabarole district, culminating a 21-day period of waiting and uncertainty.

Funeral arrangements are now underway, and mourners have begun to gather to pay their respects. The burial is expected to take place later today.
