PHOTOS: The humour, wit and Prof. Taban Lo Liyong’s masterclass at the opening of Writivism 2018

It is that time again when Africa’s literature community converges to celebrate, promote and market African Art. This years edition kicked off at National Theatre with a thrilling keynote address by one of Africa’s greats, Prof. Taban Lo Liyong. 

When the Prof is reading a masterpiece he penned in 1979, attention must be paid in dollars.

Literature knows no boundaries. It is a universal language. 

Speakers and attendees will celebrate the different ways history can be used to inspire new narratives.

Key speakers at the festival include luminaries Prof. Taban Lo Liyong, Goretti Kyomuhendo, authors Akwaeke Emezi (Freshwater), Ijangolet Ogwang (An Image in a Mirror), Mugabi Byenkya (Dear Philemona), Dami Ajayi (A Woman’s Body is a Country)Shadreck Chikoti (Azotus the Kingdom) among others.

Other activities include book launches, film screenings, panel discussions, poetry and music performances, outreach to hospitals, markets and schools, visual arts and photography exhibitions. 

The sixth Annual Writivism Festival will discuss how the past is remembered, negotiated and adapted to inform the present and future.
