Thanks for remaining calm – Museveni visits late Akena’s parents

Museveni visits Akena’s parents in Pader district.

President Yoweri Museveni has met the parents of Kenneth Akena, who was shot near Game Stores in Kampala and later died in hospital in November 2016.

Museveni met Akena’s parents Mr Francis and Mrs Suzan Omona, in Pajule, Pader District and thanked them for being calm during this trying time.

The late Kenneth Akena.

The murder stirred tribal sentiments pitting northern Uganda where Akena hailed from against the west where the suspects of perpetrating the crime hail from.

Aruu County MP Odonga Otto was at the forefront of stirring the tribal sentiments in the aftermath of the incident, with heavy criticism against Winnie Byanyima, the Executive Director of Oxfam and wife to opposition leader Rtd. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye for standing surety for the suspects who happen to be her nephews.

Cynthia Munwangari, Mathew Kanyamunyu and Joseph Kanyamunyu.

Mathew Kanyamunyu, his Burundian girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari and his brother Joseph Kanyamunyu were arrested in connection with the murder and a trial is on-going.

Munwangari and Joseph Kanyamunyu were recently granted bail but Mathew remains behind bars as the prime suspect.
