National Unity Platform (NUP) acting president John Baptist Nambeshe has revealed that he has 28 children, including six sets of twins, but says he is not ready to stop expanding his family.

Nambeshe, the Member of Parliament for Manjiya County, made the revelation while speaking about his family, his late father and his personal journey in an interview with Diaspora Connect.

The 60-year-old politician said his children range from very young to adults, with the large number of twins in his family being a result of genetics.

“I have very old children and very young ones. I have six sets of twins,” Nambeshe said.

He explained that three sets of the twins are from one woman, who, he said, still hopes to have more children because she does not have a daughter.

“She still wants more because she does not have a girl yet,” he said, adding that the other sets of twins are from other women.

Nambeshe joked that, despite being 60, he considers himself to be in the “morning hours” of his life and does not see himself slowing down anytime soon.

“By the way, I am now in the morning hours of my life,” he said with a smile.

He attributed the high number of twins in his family to his father’s side, saying his late father also had twins.

Nambeshe spoke fondly of his father, who died at the age of 96. He said his family viewed the death as relatively early because of their expectation that members of the family would live even longer.

The politician also recalled how his father, who had several wives, tried to prevent his sons from pursuing relationships with his widows after his death.

According to Nambeshe, his father was particularly concerned because one of his sons appeared to be spending a lot of time around one of his wives, who was only a year older than Nambeshe.

“My father left behind one of his wives who was only one year older than me. One of my brothers used to hang around her a lot, so my father left a strongly worded will because he knew he had some crazy sons and he was a jealous man just like myself,” he said.

Nambeshe said his father clearly warned his sons against getting involved with his wives, threatening serious consequences for anyone who ignored his instructions.

“So he warned us not to touch his wives; he said whoever goes near his women would be in serious trouble,” he said.
