COVID-19 cases in Uganda almost 800 as 23 new patients are confirmed, total recoveries up to 699

The Ministry of Health has confirmed 23 new cases of COVID-19 from the 2,219 samples tested yesterday on June 22, 2020. All confirmed cases are Ugandan nationals. The total COVID-19 confirmed cases has now risen to 797.

Five of the confirmed cases are truck drivers; three arrived from Kenya via Malaba while two arrived via Elegu entry point. The other 18 are alerts and contacts of the previously confirmed cases from Tororo, Kyotera, Amuru and Yumbe.

A total of 13 foreign truck drivers who tested positive for COVID-19 were handed over to their respective countries for treatment.

Uganda has also registered an increase in the total number of recoveries as it now stands at 699 with no single death.

While delivering his national address about COVID-19, President Museveni continued to ease the lockdown as he allowed public and private transport in border districts to reopen, but with all the safeguards. He also increased the number of occupants in private cars to four given they all wear masks.
