2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Uganda Cranes clinch narrow victory over Somalia

Uganda Cranes has secured their first victory in the ongoing 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, triumphing over Somalia in a match played this evening in Morocco. The Cranes emerged victorious with a narrow 1-0 win.

The Cranes set the tone early in the game with a series of aggressive offensive attempts. Their efforts materialized in the 4th minute when Rogers Mato found the back of the net, giving Uganda a crucial lead.

Joseph Put’s men continued to apply pressure on Somalia, showcasing nice movements, notably orchestrated by Travis Mutyaba.

As the game progressed into the second half, Cranes maintained a relentless pace, persistently threatening their opponents. Despite Somalia being a man down, the Cranes were unable to secure another goal.

In Group G, a formidable assembly of teams including Algeria, Guinea, Mozambique, Botswana, and Somalia, Uganda currently stands with three points, on par with Guinea, Mozambique, and Botswana. Algeria leads the group with six points, having secured two wins.

Somalia, on the other hand, finds itself at the bottom of the group with no points.
