Singer Jose Chameleone, real name Joseph Mayanja, has said he is going to live his second chance at life without smoking or drinking alcohol.
Speaking in an interview in Kenya, where he went for routine medical check-ups, Chameleone said that for most of his life he had been a smoker and alcohol consumer, but he has now quit both for the sake of his health.
“God has given me another chance, and so I am reborn. Whatever I was doing is now in the past, and I have started a new life in this second round,” Chameleone said.

He added, “I am three years away from turning 50, so I have to slow down on everything.”
Chameleone returned to Uganda on April 12, 2025, after four months of medical treatment in the United States. He underwent pancreatic surgery, a condition caused by prolonged alcohol use.
He arrived at Entebbe International Airport in high spirits, amidst jubilation from his fans. Last week, the singer held a thanksgiving mass where he vowed to avoid habits that had been damaging his health.
Chameleone also revealed that he has not yet fully recovered, as he will be undergoing further treatments and routine check-ups.
