Kampala Woman Member of Parliament (MP), Shamim Malende, has been flown to Nairobi Hospital in Kenya for specialised treatment.
The MP, who has been bedridden for a month, left Uganda for Kenya this morning and will be admitted to Aga Khan Hospital in Kenya.
The transfer was recommended by Nsambya Hospital, which has been treating her for the last few months.
Speaking briefly to the media, Malende stated that she experienced severe stomach pain and complications, a condition that has made her very weak and unable to walk on her own.
For about two years now, Malende has been in and out of hospital. During this period, she has undergone several emergency abdominal surgeries.
However, she states that the conditions keep recurring after some time. She explains that, physically, she feels very drained.
On who is meeting the medical bills, the MP explained that Parliament covers some expenses through her insurance as an MP, and she clears the remaining balances herself.
She appreciates her National Unity Platform party leaders and members for always checking on her.
