Uganda’s population, estimated at 45.9 million in 2024, is overwhelmingly young, with 44% under 14 years old (UBOS Census projections). This demographic shift requires the urgent need for investment in education and healthcare to ensure sustainable family growth.
However, alongside this growth, challenges persist. A staggering 75% of young adults (aged 18-24) report experiencing violence during childhood, with 35% of girls and 17% of boys subjected to sexual abuse (2018 Uganda Violence Against Children Survey, UNICEF). These realities call for proactive interventions to create safer environments and promote holistic child development.
In response, Kiara Events Limited has announced the 3rd edition of the Baby & Kids Expo East Africa, set for May 9th-11th, 2025, at the UMA Multipurpose Hall, Lugogo. Under the theme “Strengthening Families Through Healthcare, Growth, and Zero Violence,” the event aims to equip parents, children, expectant mothers, and industry stakeholders with essential resources, expert knowledge, and interactive experiences to foster child well-being.
“The Baby & Kids Expo continues to grow in impact and reach,” said Joweria Nabuuma, Managing Director of Kiara Events Limited. “Following the success of our 2024 edition, we’re excited to deliver an even more meaningful experience in 2025, featuring a robust showcase of products and services, expert-led sessions on raising children with special needs, mental and physical wellness, first aid, and instilling values in young minds.”
The Expo will also feature vital health services, including free vaccinations, triage services, and specialized focus sessions on conditions such as Down syndrome, autism, and neonatal health. Attendees can enjoy live entertainment, including gymnastics, dance shows, a kids’ fashion showcase, and music performances by young artists.

Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, lauded the event: “I am delighted to once again officiate the Baby & Kids Expo. This year’s theme is both timely and relevant. With 44% of our population under 14, Uganda’s future lies in its youngest citizens. The sobering statistics on childcare, growth, and development demand collective, urgent action. As a Ministry, we continue to champion parenting initiatives through the National Parenting Programme, Integrated Early Childhood Development, and empowerment grants for vulnerable populations. Events like this Expo are crucial in mobilizing both the public and private sectors to reimagine childhood in Uganda, ensuring children grow up healthy, safe, and loved.”
Sponsors and exhibitors are eager to contribute to this cause. Diana Kajumba, Director of Kids Nook, shared her enthusiasm: “Last year was a quality experience; this year, we plan to offer even better demonstrations, giveaways, and an overall educational experience for visitors.”
Uzazi Hub will use the Expo to officially launch its Uzazi Packages, designed to support mothers during early motherhood. “Under the theme ‘Gift a Mama,’ we are excited to introduce curated hospital bag packages,” said Nabifo Wamunga, Founder and CEO.
Manuela P. Mulondo, Founder and CEO of The Cradle, emphasized the role of childcare solutions: “As Uganda’s premier 24-hour childcare center, we understand the challenges modern parents face and are committed to providing innovative support for both children and families.”
Happy Ampumuza, Events Supervisor at Movit Products, highlighted the importance of engaging with parents directly: “This Expo allows us to share expert insights on baby skincare and hygiene while demonstrating how Baby Junior is making a difference in young children’s well-being.”
Adding to the excitement, Verina Play House will provide fun activities to entertain both children and parents, ensuring a lively, engaging experience.
The 2025 Baby & Kids Expo is proudly sponsored by the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, Nation Media Group, Capital One Group (COG) EA Ltd, Kids Nook, Baby Junior, Uzazi, Verina Play House, The Cradle, and Star Kids Club, all committed to advancing children’s rights, development, and family empowerment.
With a strong lineup of exhibitors, sponsors, and activities, this year’s Expo promises to be a transformative event, championing a future where every Ugandan child grows up in a nurturing and violence-free environment.
