National Unity Platform’s (NUP) Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola has been declared the winner of the Kawempe North by-election.
Nalukoola secured a total of 17,764 votes, while National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) Faridah Nambi garnered 8,593 votes, finishing second in the 10-person race.
Independent candidate Hanifah Karadi secured 381 votes, while Muhammed Lusswa Luwemba received 240.
Sadat Mukiibi, also known as Khalifah Aganaga (FDC), garnered 239 votes, followed by Muhamood Mutazindwa with 186.
Henry Kasacca Mubiru (DP) obtained 100 votes, Ismail Musiitwa (PPP) got 39, Moses Nsereko received 32, and Stanley Maitum Engena finished with 22.
Nalukoola is now the MP-elect for Kawempe North, awaiting swearing-in to officially replace Muhammad Ssegirinya, who passed away on January 9, 2025.
“This is not my victory, nor my party’s. It’s for the people of Kawempe and all Ugandans….We still have a long way to go,” said Nalukoola after being declared winner.
