Renowned lawyer Mukasa Mbidde was caught off guard on Valentine’s Day when a woman claiming to be his lover confronted him at a hotel in Kampala, where he was having lunch with his wife, Phiona Nayebale.
It is said that Mbidde alerted hotel security, who intervened and apprehended the woman. She was subsequently taken to Jinja Road Police Station, where she was detained for further questioning. The woman has been identified as 24-year-old Mutoni Beylse, a Rwandan national.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed that both Mbidde and Mutoni recorded statements regarding the incident.
According to the police report, Mutoni had coincidentally visited the same hotel and, upon spotting Mbidde with his wife, approached his table in a heated confrontation. She accused him of cutting off communication despite what she described as a prior “understanding” between them.
Mutoni claimed she had been in touch with Mbidde for three weeks and alleged that he had promised to help her secure a job. Additionally, she insisted that Mbidde owed her $3,000.
Despite the allegations, Mutoni pleaded not guilty to charges related to threatening Mbidde and his family. Police have directed her to return for further inquiries on February 24, 2025.
