Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, has dismissed allegations of an extramarital affair with socialite Sheila Gashumba, saying that he has never met her.
The claims surfaced in a viral video circulated by Canadian-based blogger Senga Acid, who alleged that Tayebwa was involved in a relationship with Gashumba.
The video, which has drawn attention on social media platforms.
“I saw a lady in a video accusing me of having an affair with a celebrity in town. She presented it as breaking news and appeared quite serious. However, I later discovered she’s hiding in Canada,” Tayebwa said during a session in Parliament.
The Deputy Speaker revealed that his wife, Anita Rukundo Tayebwa, was the first to inform him about the allegations after coming across the video on TikTok.
“My wife sent me the video. This individual, Senga Acid, is in Canada, speaking with authority about someone she has never met, whose number I don’t even have,” Tayebwa clarified.
He further disclosed that this isn’t the first time Senga Acid has made defamatory statements about public figures, alleging that she has targeted another Member of Parliament.
Tayebwa believes these claims are part of a ploy to generate sensational content for TikTok, where creators are compensated for high engagement and views.
“With TikTok now paying for content, people are desperate for attention. This woman, Senga Acid, attacks individuals in Luganda, yet she’s actually a Mukiga from Kabale,” he added. Tayebwa expressed his intent to work with law enforcement authorities to hold Senga Acid accountable for her actions.
