The late Kawempe North legislator Muhammad Ssegirinya’s mother, Justine Ssanyu Nakajumba, has appealed to Parliament and the public for financial support to help her care for her grandchildren.
She revealed that so far, eight children have been introduced to her as Ssegirinya’s biological children.
Nakajumba stated that she is already struggling to provide for them, as the little money she had was spent on buying food for mourners who are still at Kaddugala-Butale in Masaka, where the late MP was laid to rest.
She also claimed that the National Unity Platform (NUP), the party to which Ssegirinya belonged, has not offered any financial assistance. She urged Parliament to urgently provide financial help.
During a parliamentary session on Friday to pay tribute to the late Kawempe North legislator, Members of Parliament pledged to contribute Shs 300,000 each, totaling Shs 150 million, to support the family.
Ssegirinya passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025, after battling various health complications for a prolonged period. He was 37 years old.
