A group of unidentified thugs armed with pangas attacked a businessman stuck in traffic and robbed him of Shs 100 million shortly after he withdrew the cash from a bank.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the incident, identifying the victim as Fred Tibamanya. He had just withdrawn the money from Centenary Bank’s Kawempe branch and was driving his Toyota Harrier, registration number UBN 789W, when the attack occurred at Maganjo along Bombo Road.
“Tibamanya’s vehicle, which was caught in a traffic jam, was ambushed by suspects riding on three motorcycles and armed with pangas. They smashed the vehicle’s windshield while the car was still stuck in traffic and made off with a bag containing the cash,” Onyango reported.
Following the robbery, the assailants fled toward the city center, eventually discarding the bag along Kyadondo Road.
Onyango noted that although the bag, along with important documents such as land titles, was recovered, the Shs 100 million in cash remains missing.
Police investigations into the robbery are ongoing.
