Family, friends, and supporters are united in honouring the final wishes of the late Muhammad Ssegirinya, Kawempe North Member of Parliament, who passed away at 36 after battling illness. Ssegirinya succumbed on Thursday at Lubaga Hospital, following extensive treatments both locally and abroad.
One of Ssegirinya’s foremost requests was to be mourned for a full week as a testament to his dedication and service to the people. Close relatives and confidants shared this wish outside Lubaga Hospital as news of his passing spread.
In a symbolic gesture of loyalty to his political roots, Ssegirinya also wished to spend a night at the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters. He requested that NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, speak for five hours in his honour during mourning ceremonies.
During the vigil held at the NUP headquarters, Bobi Wine affirmed his commitment to honouring this request.
“Ssegirinya asked me to speak for five hours if he passed on before me. I will fulfill this by speaking for one hour at each of the five mourning ceremonies,” he declared.
The late MP also expressed a desire for prayers at Mbogo Mosque, a respected spiritual site in his constituency, as well as a night of remembrance at his Kasangati home. These wishes reflected his deep connection to both his community and faith.
His final journey will culminate in his burial on Sunday at his ancestral home in Kadugala-Butale, Masaka.
