Naggalama Police have arrested Byaruhanga Kassim for impersonating a Commissioner of Police and an intelligence officer in the army. The suspect is accused of attempting to defraud a senior police officer under the guise of organizing an auction for motor vehicles.

The incident unfolded on July 24, 2024, when the District Police Commander (DPC) of Naggalama received a phone call from someone claiming to be Commissioner of Police Tumusiime. During the call, the impersonator informed the DPC about an auctioning exercise allegedly being conducted by the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA).

The following day, the so-called “Commissioner” requested the DPC to send Shs800,000 to a mobile number, purportedly as payment related to the auction. Suspicious of the request, the DPC conducted further inquiries, which eventually led to the identification and arrest of Byaruhanga Kassim.
