Albert Cook Tugume, a brother of Kampala Deputy Mayor Doreen Nyanjura, was shot dead in a robbery at Muvule stage on Ntinda-Kigowa Road on Thursday evening.
According to Nyanjura, she first received a phone call from a boda boda rider they usually use. The boda boda rider reported that gunmen came to Nyanjura’s brother’s shop, started shooting, and then abducted him.
Nyanjura decided to go to the scene to see what had happened.
“I found the place had already been sealed off by security operatives. I approached the OC Station of Ntinda and asked him what had happened, but he did not say anything,” Nyanjura said in an interview.
She further stated that one of the people working nearby approached her and said it was her brother who had been shot dead.
It is reported that the gunmen camped at the mobile money shop for some time. When the deceased was closing at about 8:30 p.m., one of the assailants drew out his gun and demanded money.
“My brother always moves with cash in a bag after work. I was told that one of the boda riders, called Barnabus, tried to fight off the assailants to save my brother, but he was also shot,” she said.
Her brother tried to escape but was shot and died on the spot.
The boda boda rider was rushed to the hospital.
“I was strong until I saw the body of my brother lying in a pool of blood, helpless, in ‘kasasiro’,” Nyanjura said.
She added, “I don’t know whether my brother’s killing was political or just a robbery. They killed him, took his bag, jumped over a fence, and there was a boda boda rider waiting for them.”
Police have described the incident as an act of aggravated robbery and said investigations are ongoing.
