The stage is set for the grand return of the Ikon Film and Television Awards, with the third edition officially launched on Sunday in a dazzling event at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
Organized by the Ikon Inspire Foundation, Reach A Hand Uganda, and Sauti Plus Media Hub, the awards are Uganda’s premier platform for celebrating creativity, innovation, and excellence in the film and television industry.
The 2025 edition promises to be the biggest yet, with organizers unveiling exciting plans to take the event to new heights. The colorful, old-school-themed launch brought together filmmakers, industry stakeholders, and enthusiasts for an unforgettable evening.
Entertainment highlights included captivating performances from Band Sanyu and DJ Bryan, who thrilled the audience with nostalgic hits from the past.
Dynamic hosts Doreen Nabbanja and Kingsley Ebuka Obiekwe seamlessly guided guests through the evening, blending cocktails, entertainment, networking, and inspiring speeches.
Humphrey Nabimanya, founder of the Ikon Awards, delivered a stirring address to attendees, underscoring the importance of collaboration to propel Uganda’s film industry to the levels of African giants like Nigeria and South Africa.
“We need to come together as an industry and collaborate on a much deeper level if we want to grow to the scale of established African film giants,” Nabimanya stated.
He also expressed gratitude to past sponsors, including Uganda Airlines, Aquafina, and ATS Events, for their invaluable support in promoting the industry.
Usama Mukwaya, the producer of the Ikon Awards and Director of Operations at the Ikon Inspire Foundation, revealed exciting changes for the 2025 edition. Nominations will be announced in January, and the number of nominees per category has been increased from four to five, providing more opportunities to celebrate the immense talent within Uganda’s film industry.
Beyond the glitz and glamour of the awards night, the Ikon Awards are also known for their transformative initiatives, including a series of masterclasses designed to equip young and upcoming filmmakers with skills from industry veterans.
The highly anticipated Ikon Awards ceremony will take place on 29th March 2025 at the Kampala Serena Hotel. Adding to the excitement, celebrated Nigerian film legends Patience Ozokwo and Konayo O. Konayo are slated to grace the event, making it a night to remember.
