Police in Mbale City have arrested Moses Kaseti, an 18-year-old student from Mbale High Secondary School, on allegations of possessing a police uniform, which he reportedly used to impersonate an officer and carry out robberies.
Kaseti was apprehended during a targeted security operation led by Yahaya Were, the Deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC) for Mbale City Northern Division. He was arrested alongside 19-year-old Muhamed Kabuko, believed to be a student from another institution.
The operation was launched in response to growing public concern over a surge in criminal activities, including theft, robbery, sexual assaults, and phone snatching, in areas such as Nkoma, Namakwekwe, and Central Town.
Residents had raised the alarm, prompting a city-wide crackdown on crime hotspots, schools, and surrounding neighborhoods.
Authorities revealed that Kaseti allegedly acquired the police uniform from his father in Mukono. Disguised as a police officer, he is said to have committed multiple crimes in and around Mbale.
During the operation, law enforcement officers recovered several weapons, including knives, iron bars, and other illicit items such as opium and marijuana.
Both suspects are currently in custody at Mbale Central Police Station as investigations continue.
