Unknown assailants attacked residents of Mizizi A Village, Kyaterekera Sub County, Kagadi District, killing eight people and injuring eight others. According to the police, the incident occurred around 9 p.m.
The deceased have been identified as Nyirambe Boniface Rogers, aged 41; Yokononia Isakara, aged 76; Kabuwere Norah, aged 64; Muhindo Praise, aged 7; Kabugho Anitah, aged 44; Masika Kabagenyi, aged 3; Baluku Ferdinandi, aged 13; and Kabugo Olive, aged 13.
The injured were rushed to various clinics in Kyaterekera.
The police report that a joint team of police officers and UPDF soldiers responded to the incident, resulting in the killing of suspects Baguma Obedi, 33, and Munyirambe David, 36.
Major Billal Katamba, spokesperson for the Mountain Division and Operation Shuja, confirmed the attack, stating that the assailants killed the victims with sharp weapons.
He added that investigations are ongoing to determine the attackers’ motive.
The UPDF, in collaboration with the police and the Internal Security Organisation (ISO), has launched a full-scale manhunt to track down those responsible.
