Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) reinforced its commitment to responsible drinking at this year’s Bell ObaFest, which featured impactful activations focused on moderation, a zero-tolerance stance on drunk driving, and environmental sustainability through effective waste management.
Spanning three vibrant days, the festival generated two tonnes of waste, of which 56% was successfully recycled, while the remaining 44% was repurposed into animal feeds, as reported by festival waste management partners, Asante Waste Management.
The responsible drinking initiative was highlighted through engaging activities that conveyed essential safety messages to festival-goers. Quick questionnaires and trivia sessions fostered an interactive environment that emphasized the importance of moderation.
In collaboration with Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda, UBL distributed over 2,400 complimentary bottles of Rwenzori Water to ensure attendees stayed hydrated. Hydration points were strategically placed at all beer-serving stations, equipped with water dispensers to promote healthy drinking habits.
Brenda Kobutungi, UBL’s Corporate Relations Manager for Positive Drinking, emphasized that the company’s commitment to consumer satisfaction extends beyond offering quality beer; it encompasses creating safe and enjoyable experiences for everyone. “While our guests relish our diverse drink offerings, we aim to ensure they do so responsibly. Our teams were present to encourage hydration after every two or three beers, and our partnership with Safe Boda played a vital role in discouraging drunk driving,” Kobutungi stated.
Lilian Kansiime, Brand Manager for Bell Lager, praised the festival’s responsible drinking initiatives, underscoring the importance of safety and moderation. “This year’s Bell ObaFest blended entertainment with education, engaging over 3,000 attendees in our ‘Wrong Side of the Road’ anti-drunk driving campaign. We take pride in bringing people together for a memorable experience while reinforcing vital messages about safety and moderation,” Kansiime noted.
The festival featured an array of entertaining activities, including basketball, football, darts, board games, and karaoke, with winners receiving prizes like vacuum cups, water bottles, umbrellas, and branded shirts.
One of the highlights of the festival was the completion of a “survey by 3,060 participants”. This interactive drink-driving awareness tool allowed attendees to reflect on the consequences of impaired driving, enhancing the festival’s focus on safety and what it means to drink responsibly.
UBL demonstrated its commitment to promoting a safe and enjoyable festival experience for all through this Responsible Drinking initiative.
