The deceased have been identified as Apiyo Sunday, 21, Akidi Santino, 47, and Ajalo Florence, 16, while the injured are Kidega Charles Kumakech, 47, and Apiyo Janet, 20.

It is further alleged that he went on a shooting rampage while looking for the man he suspected of taking her.

The injured were rushed to Dr. Ambrossoli Memorial Hospital in Kalongo.

“The UPDF regrets and condemns such an incident of misconduct and remains committed to pursuing the soldier, who is still at large, for prosecution. A joint investigation by the UPDF and sister security agencies is underway,” said the UPDF.

The UPDF will undertake to meet the burial arrangements for the deceased and cover the medical expenses of the injured.
