Situated at the foot of the Rwenzori Mountains in Kasese District is the Kilembe Mines Golf Club, a beautiful 18-hole, par 73 golf course. It’s one of the oldest, longest, and most challenging golf courses in Uganda.
Though still surviving on individual donations after many years of minimal activity, the club has recently seen a slight increase in membership of playing golfers and a thriving and competitive junior program.
In an attempt to restore the glory of the club’s course and its facilities, the stakeholders have organized a Fundraising Golf Tournament set to take place on Friday, October 18, 2024, at Uganda Golf Club in Kampala.
The club is currently struggling to secure equipment to manage the golf course, as many of the essential tools and machinery have become outdated or are no longer functional.
Without proper maintenance, the quality of the greens and fairways has declined, impacting the overall experience for golfers.
The club is also grappling with several other issues, including encroachment and frequent trespassing, which are clearly evident on the course.
Additionally, the clubhouse has fallen into disrepair, highlighting the urgent need for revitalization efforts.
The fundraising tournament aims to raise funds to get the course back in shape and keep the club going for future generations to enjoy.
“Our course has a rich history, and it has always stood as a symbol of community and resilience. This tournament is not just about raising funds, it’s about keeping the spirit of Kilembe alive. We believe this is a chance for everyone who loves the game to give back to one of the most unique courses in Uganda,” Ronald Kwikiriza, Kilembe Mines Golf Club Chairperson, said.
Companies and individuals can sponsor the tournament or specific aspects of the event.
For those unable to play, financial contributions to the cause are welcome. Every donation goes a long way in reviving the glory of Kilembe Mines Golf Club.
