Renowned veteran gospel singer Judith Babirye has revealed that joining politics is one of her biggest regrets in life.

Speaking in an interview, Judith Babirye, a former Woman Member of Parliament for Buikwe District who served between 2016 and 2021, said joining politics split her fanbase and also deprived her of the freedom to connect with different people who were her friends during her singing career.

She noted that during her musical career, her music resonated with everyone, regardless of their political affiliations. However, when she pursued a career in politics, she “messed up everything.”

“People like Bobi Wine and Erias Lukwago were my friends during my music career, but when I joined politics on the NRM ticket, I automatically became their rival as I couldn’t associate with them,” Babirye said.

According to Babirye, she never thought the move would harm her personality, as she believed she would still be seen as “Judith Babirye, the servant of God.”

In April 2019, Babirye left Parliament and her marriage, allegedly to protect herself and her unborn child. She relocated to Boston, United States, where she gave birth to a baby boy.
