Uganda Cranes left-back Aziz Kayondo has been named in the 2025 AFCON Qualification matchday two Best XI.
The 21-year-old was full of energy during the Cranes’ home game on Monday against Congo Brazzaville. Kayondo was solid in defence and equally energetic going forward.
His stunning goal, which gave the Cranes the lead in the 21st minute, made him the standout performer of the team on the day. Whether he intended to hit the ball into the net or not will be a discussion for another day.
Kayondo is a product of St. Mary’s Kitende and has risen through the ranks of Vipers Junior Club to the senior team, Vipers Sports Club, before moving abroad for greener pastures.
He currently plays for Czech Republic side Slovan Liberec, a club he joined this year.
For the national team, he has featured for Uganda’s under-20 football team (The Hippos) and was part of the squad that reached the final in 2021. He has made 23 appearances for the senior team, having debuted in 2021.
