Mawokota North Constituency Member of Parliament (MP), Kiyaga Hillary Innocent, also known as Dr. Hilderman, has claimed that he did not join politics for money, as he was earning much more as a musician than he currently does as a legislator.
Speaking in an interview on a local television station, Dr. Hilderman stated that he used to earn an average of Shs8 million per week from his music performance gigs. He said this income was sufficient for him and his family.
“In Parliament, I am paid about Shs20 million per month. This money is not enough, as I have many pledges to fulfill in my constituency,” said Dr. Hilderman, before adding that he wouldn’t advise anyone to join Parliament.
The singer-turned-politician said he has faced many challenges since entering politics.
“All the influential people I used to deal with have distanced themselves, not because they hate me, but because they don’t want my political affiliations to affect their businesses,” he said.
Regarding his relationship with his party (National Unity Platform) president, Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, Dr. Hilderman said that although Bobi Wine is a good listener, a section of people is feeding him false information to tarnish others’ reputations.
“When people see you with Bobi Wine, they try to tarnish your name and spoil the relationship. They want him to be isolated so they can fight him more effectively,” he said.
However, he emphasized that he holds no grudge against Bobi Wine and that they are still on a mission to push out the current regime.
