Just like Kitara Football Club, Sports Club Villa’s continental journey came to an end following a one-all draw against the Ethiopian side CBE this evening.
The reigning Uganda Premier League champions entered the game needing to overturn the 1-2 defeat they suffered at Namboole Stadium last week. However, the hosts netted first in the 64th minute. Villa equalized in the 78th minute through Jonah Kakande’s penalty.
Morley Bwekwaso’s men kept pushing for another goal, but they did not do just enough to get it, and the game ended 1-1.
The Ethiopian side progressed to the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League on a 3-2 aggregate.
Villa will now focus on the domestic season, set to kick off in September, as they will be aiming to defend the league title. The Joogos are the record champions of the Uganda Premier League, with 17 titles.
