Inspector General of Police Abbas Byakagaba has made changes in the police leadership, appointing six acting directors to replace Assistants Inspector General of Police (AIGPs) whose contracts have expired.
The AIGPs whose contracts expired include Grace Akullo (Interpol), Fadhir Kaali (Fire and Rescue Services), Charles Birungi (Welfare and Production), Richard Edyegu (Logistics and Engineering), and John Ndungutse (Police Attaché in Nairobi).
In the new appointments, AIGP Joseph Mugisa has been brought out of retirement to serve under the IGP’s office. Senior Commissioner of Police (SCP) James Apora replaces AIGP Edyegu as acting director of Logistics and Engineering, while SCP Joseph Obwana takes over from AIGP Akullo as acting director of Interpol.
Former Kampala Metropolitan Policing Area Commander SCP Stephen Tanui is now acting director of Fire and Rescue, replacing AIGP Kaali. SCP Elias Kassirabo is appointed Attaché at the Uganda High Commission in Nairobi, replacing AIGP Ndungutse.
SCP Yusuf Ssewanyana from ICT has been appointed Deputy Director of the Interpol Division. Meanwhile, SCP Frankline Kugonza has moved from the Directorate of Logistics & Engineering to the Directorate of Fire Prevention & Rescue as Deputy Director.
In other appointments, CP Sarah Kibwika from the Directorate of Human Resource Administration & Management has been appointed Acting Deputy Director of Human Resource Administration & Management. Additionally, CP Proscovia Achola and CP Irene Ameri Kimara, both from Logistics & Engineering, have been appointed Acting Deputy Directors of Force Fleet Management and Logistics & Engineering, respectively.
CP Simon Peter Okosh has moved from Peace Support Operations to the Directorate of Operations as Acting Deputy Director Operations. Furthermore, CP Philip Acaye has been appointed Acting Deputy Director of Traffic & Road Safety, while CP Hillary Kulayige has been appointed Deputy Director of the Chief Political Commissariat.
Several other appointments have been made, including CP Moses Muluya as Deputy Director of Welfare Production & Sports, CP Agaptus Ecotu as Deputy Commander of the Field Force Unit, and CP Benedict Byamugisha as CP Research & Development. Additionally, CP Hassan Kihanda has been appointed CP Fire Disaster, Training & Administrative Support Services, and CP Rosemary Nanyonga has been appointed Deputy Commandant of the Livestock Sector.
The final appointments include CP Michael Walwanga as CP International Relations, CP James Kusemererwa as CP International Relations in the Directorate of Human Rights & Legal Services, CP David Manzi as Commandant of VIPPU/VIS, CP Moses Otala Obbo as CP Welfare, and CP Polly Namaye as CP Peace Support Operations in the Directorate of Operations.
