After the resounding success of its inaugural Sip Over event, where they honored Women in Media, on Friday August 16th, Johnnie Walker Uganda hosted trailblazing women that are making bold moves in the world of golf.
Held at the picturesque Uganda Golf Club, the second Sip Over edition was an inspiring and vibrant evening, dedicated to women excelling on and off the greens.
This stylish event marked a new milestone for Johnnie Walker’s “She Walks” mentorship program, a groundbreaking initiative launched in March, to elevate women from different fields and sectors. The program has fast become a force to reckon with, in regards to uplifting and bringing like-minded women together, creating space for them to inspire and mentor one another, while sharing stories of triumph.
Caroline Ampire, the Media Manager at Uganda Breweries Limited, passionately spoke about the importance of the “She Walks” program: “This program reasonates deeply with me, because it’s about progress, breaking boundaries, and celebrating women, who like Johnnie Walker, continue to take bold steps forward. Tonight, we honored the incredible women in golf, learned from their journeys, and of course, savored the finest that Johnnie Walker has to offer.”
In true Sip Over fashion, the event was a delightful blend of celebration, whisky mentorship and education.
Hosted by the Lady Captain of Uganda Golf Club- Wendy Angudeyo, the evening saw female golfers enjoy a sumptuous dinner, whisky mentorship, and an exquisite food pairing session. Guests indulged in the rich, immersive experience of Johnnie Walker whisky, exploring its unique variants and learning how to best enjoy them.
And with the gifting season around the corner, the ladies took advantage of the Johnnie Walker offerings that included free customization and personalization of every Iconic Johnnie Walker bottle that was purchased, with messages and names of their loved ones. The night’s spotlight was on resilience.
Keynote speaker- Mrs. Doreen Mwesigye, the President of the Uganda Ladies Golf Union, captivated attendees with her inspirational comparison of real life and the game of golf, sighting examples of life’s un ending challenges, versus swinging and scoring on the course.
“A bad hole should never stop you from rising above defeat and disappointment. In golf, as is in life, you should always keep walking towards your dreams,” she shared.
Doreen recounted her entrepreneurial journey, sharing stories of resilience, such as her infamous bus business failure, that didn’t deter her, but instead empowered her to build a thriving empire of four businesses today.
The event drew a vibrant mix of remarkable women, including former Presidents of the Uganda Ladies Golf Union-Eva Magara and Ann Abeka, the first female Professional Golfer, also the Uganda National Team coach- Flavia Namakula, as well as the Lady Captain of Mary Louis Club Namulonge- Charity Atuhaire, among others.
