Police have arrested five suspects who were impersonating victims of the tragic incident at Kiteezi landfill.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, the arrested individuals were seeking compensation and relief items. They are detained at Kiteezi Police Station on charges of impersonation.
The government has given Shs200,000 to residents who were displaced, Shs1 million to the survivors, and Shs5 million to the family of each recovered body.
Last evening, the exhumation team recovered six more bodies, bringing the total number of bodies to 30.
The police say that 39 people were registered as missing and are believed to still be trapped under the garbage. Of the 39, 35 are local residents of Kiteezi, and four are garbage collectors.
Meanwhile, 175 people have been registered in the temporary shelter at Kiteezi Church of Uganda Primary School playground.
