Police in Kampala Metropolitan South have arrested a notorious panga-wielding robbery gang and recovered stolen items.
The suspects, believed to be part of a larger gang, were apprehended in various locations, including Nateete, Jeza, Bujuuko, and Bulenga.
Those arrested include Sekibuule Bakari, 25, a resident of Bunamwaya Ngobe village in Makindye Sabagabo, who was arrested on August 11, 2024, and has confessed to being part of another gang with members named Robert, Boy, Dube, Hakim, and Muzamir.
Kyeyune Robert, 21, from Mwenda, Bulenga, Wakiso District, was arrested in Jeza along Mityana Road. Ssemanda Kadiidi, alias Gideon, 23, from Bulenga, Wakiso, was found with a bag containing burglary tools, including master keys and a hood for concealing his face.
Mayanja Hakim, 32, from Bunga in Makindye Division, was arrested after a search at a rented house in Gogonya B zone, Bulenga A parish, Wakiso District, which was being used as a storage facility by the gang.
The search yielded a cache of items, including pangas, burglary tools, face masks, and stolen goods such as TV stands and a PlayStation remote.
The police also recovered two Airtel SIM cards and passport photos of a suspect named Kibirango Derrick. The police are continuing to investigate and apprehend other members.
