Police are hunting for a landlord, Joseph Sebugenyi, after the dead body of a man was discovered in a septic tank on the premises of his rental building in Namungoona, a Kampala suburb.
The corpse was retrieved on Sunday after a tenant in the premises, whose identity police have concealed, informed authorities of the discovery in the septic tank as she poured rubbish next to the plant. She reportedly alerted the landlord.
Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed that Sebugenyi alerted the police about the incident but did not cooperate during the retrieval of the body. Instead, he escaped, prompting the police to launch a manhunt.
“We have a case of suspected murder under investigation. We retrieved the floating body of a man estimated to be 36 years old. Sebugenyi Joseph, the landlord, is unfortunately on the run instead of cooperating with us. Our experts said the body had not spent more than two weeks in the septic tank,” Owoyesigyire said.
Also, the police are still looking into whether the deceased was killed and dumped there or if he slipped into the septic tank and died.
