Equity Bank Uganda Limited has extended its support to the Watoto Golf Tournament, injecting Shs10 million towards the event. The tournament, organized by Watoto Church Uganda, aims to raise resources for Hope Vocational and Technical Institute as part of the church’s 40th Anniversary celebrations. Proceeds will equip the institute’s departments with necessary vocational training tools and resources, benefiting up to 1,400 students.
Anthony Kituuka, Equity Bank’s Managing Director, highlighted the partnership, stating, “Champion means to find a cause, find people who are aligned in terms of value or objective, and work with them to achieve that cause. We are delighted to partner with Watoto Church Uganda in this fantastic initiative and honestly believe in the power of education and empowerment.”
Kituuka added, “In terms of golf, Equity Bank has been in the golf world for quite some time, as we are known for various tournaments, especially the Longe Open. We look forward to a fantastic Saturday and therefore urge even the non-golfers or aspiring golfers to come and join those of us who play golf this weekend.”
Pastor Edward Mwesigye, Watoto’s Pastoral Team Leader, remarked, “We want great plumbers, electricians, engineers, and mechanics who are going to contribute to the economy of Uganda, and this tournament is one of the initiatives aimed at raising money to resource our school, as we need lots of modern equipment, teachers, and supervisors to enable us to equip our young people with the knowledge.”
The tournament, scheduled for August 10th, 2024, at the Uganda Golf Club, aims to raise Shs300 million for the institute. This year’s focus is on young adults, with subsequent editions targeting young children and women. The Ugandan government recognizes Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as crucial for individual prosperity and sustained economic growth.
