Police in Greater Bushenyi have launched a manhunt for eight suspects who escaped from Sheema Central Police Station.
According to Martial Tumusiime, Greater Bushenyi Regional Police spokesperson, the escapees include Jocknions Akampa, who faces murder charges, Matovu Hakimu, accused of theft, Aggrey Musika, charged with criminal trespass, and Ambrose Byamukama, facing charges of burglary and theft.
Others who escaped are Asingwire Musinguzi, Benson Mpumwire, Ashraf Tugume, and Accum Clinton, all charged with aggravated robbery.
The escape happened at around 3 a.m., when the officers on duty were reportedly asleep. The suspects took advantage of the lapse in security and escaped through the toilet window. Tumusiime confirmed that two officers have been arrested and charged with negligence of duty in connection with the incident.
The police are working to recapture the escaped suspects and are urging anyone with information to provide it to the police.
