Three people were burned to death, and several others seriously injured when a taxi drone with registration number UBA 463V, which they were traveling in, caught fire.
The incident occurred last evening in Jinja, along Clive Road East. Reports indicate that the taxi, which had about 18 passengers, left Jinja Park for a fuel station along Clive Road East.
After fueling, it was en route to Mbalale City when, a few meters away from the fuel station, an explosion was heard, followed by a fire in the taxi.
Passengers were seen jumping from various windows of the flaming taxi. However, three were trapped inside and were burned beyond recognition.
Residents tried to put out the fire with bottles of water, but it overwhelmed them. Eyewitnesses said the police fire brigade responded in about 10 minutes, but the taxi had already been reduced to ashes.
Survivors were rushed to Jinja Referral Hospital for treatment, and the bodies of the deceased were retrieved. Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson James Mubi confirmed the incident, stating that investigations have commenced.
