The National Unity Platform (NUP) has submitted a request to hold its anniversary celebrations at the Kololo Independence Grounds, as stated in a letter addressed to the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs on July 9.
According to NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, the party has achieved significant milestones in the past four years and expects a large turnout for the event.
“We have decided to hold an event to commemorate four years since the unveiling of our party on July 22, 2024. The event is organised under the theme: ‘Four years of NUP: The milestones reached, obstacles encountered, and a glance at the future,” the letter reads.
Rubongoya emphasized the party’s flexibility regarding the event date, willing to postpone it until the end of August 2024 if necessary.
“We accordingly request to hold this event at Kololo Independence Grounds, given its historical significance, as well as the anticipated number of people at the event. We have been advised that this ground falls under the supervision of your ministry,” he stated.
Kololo Independence Grounds, a venue steeped in history, has hosted national functions since independence and has recently been used for music concerts and private events.
