Speke Resort Convention Centre Munyonyo, has hosted another global meeting; the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Global Symposium for Regulators. The event started on Monday July 1 and closed on Thursday July 4.
The event brought together over 900 delegates from around the world, including regulators, industry leaders, and experts in the telecommunications sector.
The convention centre that was opened at the beginning of this year has hosted several other high-profile events, including the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit, the Group of 77 (G77) Summit, and Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo among others.
The ITU Global Symposium for Regulators was officially opened by Vice President Jessica Alupo, representing President Museveni, and attended by the ITU Secretary General.
The theme of this year’s meeting was ‘Regulation for Impact,’ and was organised by the International Telecommunications Union in conjunction with the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance.
The themes of the conference have revolved around consumer empowerment, cybersecurity and data protection, broadband access and digital transformation.
Among the key issues was fast tracking the use of artificial intelligence, robotics and digital financial services.
The opening of the 3800 seater Convention Centre earlier this year positioned Uganda as a capable destination of hosting high level international events.
