Police in Mayuge have launched a manhunt for the assailants who shot and killed four members of the same family in Nawanvubu village, Buwaaya sub-county, Mayuge district.
The deceased have been identified as 42-year-old Isaac Buyinza and his three children: Elesi Kafuko, 15, Resty Katono, 13, and Nicholas Mudhasi, 6.
According to the police preliminary report, unknown individuals armed with guns stormed Buyinza’s house on Saturday at around 9:00 pm, shot him and his three family members, and then fled on waiting motorcycles.
The assailants also injured five others, who were rushed to Iganga General Hospital. Hussein Kamali, the LC III chairperson of Buwaaya sub-county, stated that Buyinza was involved in ongoing court battles over land, with a judgment expected this month.
Kamali revealed that Buyinza had informed local leaders that his life was under threat due to the land disputes, but the area security team disregarded his claims.
Mayuge district police commander Agnes Aanyu said that the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) and police were dispatched to the crime scene to intensify investigations into the whereabouts and motives of the assailants.
