Singer and guitarist Irene Ntale has vowed never to sign with any music label again, claiming she has accomplished more with her own “small team” than she did during her time at Swangz Avenue.
Ntale, who left Swangz Avenue in 2017, admits that her music was widely popular during her time at the record label, but she barely had any money to show for it.
“Nothing frustrates you like having your music everywhere but having no money in your pocket… People think you’re successful, but it’s just the music that’s everywhere,” Ntale said in an interview, stating that she has no regrets about leaving the record label.
“I don’t want a record label. Many people have approached me, but no, I’m not interested. God has helped me, and I’ve built a small team that I work well with… I’m happy where I am,” she said.
She further stated that while her music may not be as widely popular as it once was, she is now able to see the financial rewards of her work.
Earlier this month, singer Vinka, who was close with Ntale at Swangz Avenue and served as her manager, revealed that the ‘Gyobera’ singer left the record label after storming off the set of their ‘Stylo’ music video shoot in 2017.
Vinka recalled, “While we were shooting, Irene threw a tantrum, got off the set, and left. We were all in tears at the shoot. I hadn’t offended her in any way, and to this day, I still don’t know what happened between us.”
