Five private security guards have been arrested for allegedly attempting to shoot at State Minister for Minerals, Phiona Nyamutoro.
The incident reportedly happened at Butare, Katojo Town Council, Rubanda district this morning, where the minister and mineral officials had gone to inspect iron ore mines in Butare belonging to National Cement Company Limited.
Upon arriving at the mines, security guards who were guarding the miners blocked the officials from accessing the site. It is further reported that the guards cocked their guns, ready to shoot.
The minister and her team were first taken away by the police bodyguards, who then quickly moved in to disarm and arrest the guards.
In the video making rounds on social media, Minister Nyamutoro is seen wondering how the security guards attempted to shoot at them.
The security guards were arrested and are being held at Rubanda Police Station as investigations into the matter continue.
