Police in the North Kyoga Region have arrested four suspects for the alleged conspiracy and gang rape of a 17-year-old girl. The incident happened on Sunday at around 3 a.m. at Ocokan Cell, Akwirididi Ward in Aboke Town Council.
The suspects, who were caught red-handed with the victim, have been identified as Okello Martin, a 23-year-old resident of Akaidebe “A” Cell; Kibwota Bernard, a 25-year-old resident of Atek Village; Otiang Patrick, aged 23, from Akaidebe Village; and Nam Aron, a 20-year-old resident of Akaidebe.
Police preliminary reports indicate that the victim left the disco in the company of her two male friends, who were escorting her home. They were, however, attacked by a group of men who assaulted the two boys and chased them away, leaving the girl behind.
The suspects grabbed the victim and took her to the house of their accomplice, Okot, where they gang-raped her. The victim was, however, rescued by police and the LCI Chairperson, who swiftly responded after receiving a complaint from one of the victim’s male friends. They surrounded the home and arrested the four suspects, who were caught red-handed with the victim.
The victim was rushed to Aboke Hospital for post-rape treatment.
“Efforts are in place to trace Okot, the owner of the house, and other accomplices. We are treating the matter as a priority and are pursuing all leads, including DNA and other scientific tests, against the samples taken from the victim and suspects,” said the police.
