Police in Kampala have arrested three suspects involved in the viral ‘flying kick’ robbery that was captured on CCTV around Ben Kiwanuka Street in Kampala. The incident happened on Thursday.
The police first arrested two suspects: Senyonjo Peter, also known as Kakima, and Nuur Lweyama, also known as Mu TZ (Tanzania), who provided information about the third suspect, Mugisa Derrick.
Mugisa Derrick, also known as Musota, was arrested on Friday around Nakivubo Channel in the city center.
It is alleged that Mugisa is the individual who delivered the kick that incapacitated Mugisha Tomson, aged 40, and continued to assault him until he was unconscious. The victim was robbed of Shs450,000, a bag containing important documents, keys, and a container.
The police said that he confessed to both the act of kicking and the robbery. Additionally, the trio reportedly told the police that they are operating under the command of another individual. The police have launched a manhunt for the said individual.
The suspects will be processed and presented in court as soon as investigations are complete.
Of late, there has been a rise in robberies where victims are kicked before being robbed.
