The eighth Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE) is on at the new Speke Convention Centre in Munyonyo.
The expo kicked off with a traditional themed dinner that was addressed by Vice President Jessica Alupo who represented President Yoweri Museveni.
Museveni, in a speech read for him by Alupo emphasised the importance of partnership between the private sector and government to promote tourism.
The president urged the tourism ministry and government agencies to use the expo to listen to the investors and travellers and address their concerns to better target them.
Lily Ajarova the Uganda Tourism Board CEO says this year’s expo has welcomed 70 guest buyers and over 5,000 trade visitors and consumers.
This year’s theme is “Responsible Tourism.”
The expo is open to the general public at an entrance fee of Shs10,000 per head and is on until Saturday, May 25.
