The Gambia Football Federation has named former Uganda Cranes coach Jonathan McKinstry as the new head coach of The Gambia men’s national football team.
McKinstry, who has been managing Kenyan giants Gor Mahia, has been appointed on a two-year employment contract.
According to the Gambia Football Federation, McKinstry will oversee the team’s qualification for the 2025 AFCON and the 2026 World Cup.
His immediate task will be preparing the team for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers in June. Gambia is in Group F, alongside Kenya, Ivory Coast, Burundi, Gabon, and Seychelles.
McKinstry has extensive experience in African football, having managed several national teams on the continent, including Rwanda, Uganda, and Sierra Leone.
