Police in Jinja have arrested Rogers Ngobi, aged 26, for allegedly pouring acid on his pregnant wife, two stepsons, and another female victim.
The suspect is a teacher at Eagles Nest Secondary School in Mengo, Kensenyi, and a resident of Namusera in Wakiso district.
According to James Mubi, the Kiira, Jinja region police spokesperson, the incident happened after the suspect stormed a family meeting held on May 19, 2024, intended to resolve domestic misunderstandings he had with his wife, Shallot Kwagala.
The suspect removed a small blue jerrycan from his pockets and poured liquid (acid) on his wife, two stepsons, and Kwagala’s aunt, according to the police.
Kwagala sustained burns on her head, face, breasts, back, and waist, while the others also sustained burns on the face, hands, and eyes. They were rushed to Buwenge General Hospital.
Meanwhile, the police have established that the suspect has been a serial offender who has been luring women by promising them lucrative jobs.
This was after his wife, Kwagala, told the police that she met him via a WhatsApp group in November 2023 when Ngobi hoodwinked her with a lucrative job offer worth Shs100 million in Kampala.
“When Kwagala reached Kampala, things didn’t go well as expected. She was shocked to find no kiosk dealing in general merchandise. She was taken to a single rented room in Namusera, Wakiso district, with only a small mattress and jerrycans in the house,” said the police in a statement.
It added, “He has been conning many women, promising them non-existent jobs, and later on sexually exploiting them.”
