The Minister of Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, Francis Mwebesa, has appointed Eng. James Kasigwa Nkamwesiga as the new Executive Director of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS). He replaces Dr. David Livingstone Ebiru, who served as ED from May 2021 to July 2023.
Kasigwa assumed the office on May 13, according to a statement released on May 14 by Sylvia Kirabo, the principal public relations officer of UNBS.
Before joining UNBS, Kasigwa, an electrical engineer, served as the Director of Science, Technology, Innovation Regulation, and Biosafety at the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation. Prior to that, he was the Commissioner of ICT Infrastructure Development at the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance.
He has also worked with multinational corporations and private sector companies for over two decades in leadership and strategic management of expert teams.
Kasigwa holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Makerere University, a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, and a Master of Science degree in Telecommunications from London South Bank University, United Kingdom. Additionally, he holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI).
UNBS is a government agency responsible for developing, promoting, and enforcing national standards to protect public health and safety and the environment against harmful and substandard products, as well as promoting fair trade practices and competition.
