Police have arrested Savior Guma, a 19-year-old student of the Uganda Institute of Information and Communication Technology, after he was filmed boasting about using his IT skills to hack into stolen phones and other devices and change serial numbers to evade tracking, charging a fee for this service.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango told journalists that the suspect and his alleged accomplice confessed to recording the video but claimed it was only meant to generate views and likes on social media, specifically TikTok.
Onyango further stated that the two, currently in custody at Kampala Central Police Station, will be charged with computer misuse and public nuisance.
He emphasized that this action will serve as a lesson to other potential offenders.
