St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish Ntinda has issued a public apology for a recent incident in which a young girl drove a toy car into the church aisles for her baptism rite.

Video footage circulated online showed the girl entering the church in an electric pram from the main entrance to the altar, with a cameraman recording everything that happened.

The church members looked confused, while the parents and relatives of the baby were very happy with what was going on.

Many people have criticized the child’s parents for the image they portrayed to other children who had come to be baptized, while others have blamed the church authorities for not advising the parents.

In a statement, Rev Fr Edward Muwanga, the Parish Priest of St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish Ntinda, said the incident did not give a good impression and was done without first seeking permission from the Church. He mentioned that he was unaware of the arrangements.

“I’m deeply sorry for this unconventional entrance for baptism that occurred last Saturday in our parish church. I was not aware of this beforehand; I only learned about it after the celebrations had ended…In no way would I have approved of this. I apologize to you all,” reads the statement in part.
