Police in Kampala have arrested a Chinese national, JIN YUNGUNG, aged 33, residing in Ganda, Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, for operating a shop that sells military attire.
The Chinese national was arrested on Friday during an operation conducted in the area. According to the police, his shop, located at Kasaga Shop No. 14, was targeted following intelligence reports.
During the operation, security operatives found uniforms resembling those of the UPDF and SFC, as well as shoes and gloves in his shop.
“Investigations revealed YUNGUNG’s collaboration with an individual known only as Frank, purportedly affiliated with the Special Forces Command (SFC), who provided both the business idea and financing. YUNGUNG admitted that some uniforms were sourced from Somalia through Frank, who transported them to Nansana for distribution,” said the police.
Furthermore, it was discovered that YUNGUNG entered Uganda as a tourist, renewing his visa periodically by traveling to neighboring countries. He is currently detained at Kawempe Police Station pending further interrogation, along with efforts to locate and question Frank.
Lately, civilians have been warned against donning military attire. Several individuals, especially supporters of the National Unity Platform who wear the red beret, which is considered part of military attire, have been arrested.
