Police in Luwero have arrested four family members for allegedly beating their 89-year-old mother to death. The incident occurred last Friday in Bbaale-Kamuzingiza village, Nnyimbwa sub-county.
According to Sam Twiineamazima, the Savannah regional police spokesperson, the mother, Nalujja Yowanina, was assaulted by her two daughters, Grace Nafuna and Lovinsa Naiga, and her granddaughters, Grace Namutebi and Lydia Nazziwa, after she allegedly refused to share money she received from a land sale.
The police preliminary report indicates that around 4 pm, the suspects assaulted and beat Yowanina while demanding a share of the money from the land sale. The amount of money and ownership of the land in question are yet to be determined.
The victim was rushed to John’s Clinic in Bbowa, where she was pronounced dead around 5 pm. The suspects were arrested and are currently detained at Bombo Police Station, where they recorded their statements.
The police state that they will face murder charges.
